A one-day International Seminar on "Climate Change, Resilience and Sustainability Connecting Arctic with Third Pole" was organized by the Department of Anthropology, DNGCI.

Prof. Kamrul Hossain, Director North Eastern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law Uarctic Chair, Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland who attended as a resource person for the seminar expressed grave concern about climate change in the Third Pole, which includes the Himalayan region and eight Asian countries where indigenous communities and tribes are adjusting to the changing climate. He noted that the variability in the climate is caused by human activity.

Attending the seminar as a special invitee, Dr. Suman Chakraborty, Associate Professor, Department of Anthropology, Mrinali Datta Mahavidyapith Birati, Kolkata, West Bengal discussed the effects of the global climate, citing the rise in temperature in a few districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhury, Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Rajiv Gandhi University noted that in order to address the growing concern about climate change there is an urgent need for bridging interdisciplinary boundaries.

Dr. M. Q. Khan, Principal, DNGCI and Dr. Ratna Tayeng, HoD, Department of Anthropology also spoke on the occasion.

As many as 300 participants including faculties from various departments and students participated in the seminar.
